District 29 Representative and House Majority Leader Chet Pollert announced last week that he would not seek re-election when his term ends at the end of 2022.
Pollert, a longtime Carrington resident, has served in the House of Representatives since 1999 and was selected as House majority leader in November 2018.
U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) released the following statement regarding Pollert's retirement: "I join all of North Dakota in thanking Majority Leader Chet Pollert for his 23 years of public service in the state legislature. Chet’s common sense approach to issues and
steady leadership benefited our state greatly. During his tenure, he was a voice for rural communities and small businesses. I wish Chet nothing but the best in his retirement.”
Governor Doug Burgum also issued a statement: “Being majority leader in a part-time citizen legislature during the last three years has been a full-time job and more,” Burgum said. “As owner-operator of a grain and feed business and past chair of the House Appropriations’ Human Resources Division, Chet has been a champion for farmers, ranchers and the business community and a strong advocate for social services. And as a conservative majority leader, he has supported strategic investments in infrastructure, economic development and education while holding the line on general fund spending.”
Pollert sold New Rockford-based G & R Grain and Feed in October 2020, after nearly 25 years in business.
