The Griggs/Midkota Titans had no defensive answer for Oakes junior guard Laikyn Roney.
The Tornadoes’ sharpshooter broke OHS’ single-game scoring record with 39 points, 37 of those in the first three quarters, as the natural disasters took care of the Titans in Cooperstown, 71-41, last Monday evening, January 10.
Oakes, who improved to 3-0 in District 5 and 7-3 in all games, also benefited from good games by Brianna Schmitz (eight points) and Abby Cox and Emma Muggli (seven apiece.)
The Titans (0-2, 3-6) were paced by Jenna Larson’s 16 points, and Asia Becherl added eight.
G-M will be busy with road games at LaMoure this week on Tuesday and Nelson County in McVille Friday night, and they host a weekend matchup with the Maple River Raiders Saturday in Cooperstown.
