Carrington played one of their better games of the year Thursday, February 3, when they entertained the Grafton Spoilers in the East Gym.
The Cards were on fire to begin the game, scoring 21 first quarter points, and withstood a Grafton third-quarter comeback and brief lead before coming on strong down the stretch for a 63-55 victory.
Continuing his hot play of late was senior guard Lucas Hendrickson, who used his dribble penetration game and fearlessness inside the paint to finish with 23 points.
Freshman Josh Bickett hit four threes to finish with 14 points, and Grady Shipman put together an impressive statistical evening with seven rebounds, six assists and four steals to go along with scoring nine.
The Spoilers fell to 9-4, and sophomore Tony Villarreal's 20 points kept Grafton in the running. Braylon Baldwin added 16 more.
Two days later, the Cards traveled eastward to the second part of their Region 2 double-dip, and took on the Thompson Tommies.
Hendrickson had another big game with 18 points and six boards, but the Tommies took control in the third quarter and sent CHS to defeat, 57-44.
Hudson Topp had 10 points to represent the only other Cardinal in double figures, and Shipman had eight points and four steals.
Connor Welsh's 16 points led THS (11-4), followed by Kyle Odenbach with 14, and freshman Jake Starcevic contributed 11 points in the victory.
Cards edge Oakes Tornadoes
This past Tuesday, the Cards returned to District 5 action, and recorded a very important win against Oakes, 50-49. The game result moved Carrington's record to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the district.
