From the Past: New ownership at Carrington's Motor Inn

February 27, 1947

Carrington's Motor Inn, operated by Emmett Carroll during the past three years has been sold to Lawrence Peterson and his son Lloyd and will be operated by them with equipment they are moving from their former location with Nicolson and Carr. The Petersons will be fully equipped to handle tractors, trucks and cars and have announced March 3 as their opening date

Lorraine Lampert, 28, chief yeoman, WAVES, daughter of Mrs. Inga Lampert of Glenfield, N.D. has been assigned to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.

Joining the ranks of the Flying Farmers recently is August Miller, new owner of a new Supercruiser. Ray Kadoun, Miller and Frank Bringham of Devils Lake went to St. Paul last week and flew the ship back here.

A tournament at McHenry, Feb. 21-22 at which girls teams from eight schools participated, Kensal and Bordulac emerged co-winners and will represent sub-district five at the district tournament next week. McHenry won consolation honors.

50 Years Ago

February 24, 1972

The ruins of the Peavey Co. elevator in Buchanan continued to smolder Tuesday as authorities prepared to investigate the cause of the blaze. The elevator burned early Sunday morning. Carrington firemen were called to the fire at 3:30 a.m. Sunday to assist the Buchanan and Jamestown rural firefighting units. They arrived to find the structure engulfed in flames. The orange glow of the blaze could be seen in the night sky for more than15 miles.

Dale Cody, junior at Carrington High School, is one of 110 preliminary winners in the "Know Your State" contest sponsored by the UND political science department. Dale is the son of Paul Cody.

The Carrington Coast to Coast store has been sold to a Cavalier couple, Peter and Alice Gudmundson. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ramsey had operated the store for nearly 28 years, beginning in 1944.

Carrington Knights of Columbus has donated $239.75 to the Carrington School District toward the fund that will be used to buy backdrop curtains for the Carrington Grade School. The donation represents proceeds from the pancake-sausage supper held recently.

Army Pvt. Ronald H. Knodel, 17, of Hurdsfield has completed eight weeks of advanced individual training at the Army Armor Center, Ft. Knox, Ky.

Mr. and Mrs. Erling Stokes, Carrington, announce the engagement of their daughter, Charlene to Richard Haertel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Haertel of Juneau, Wis.

When Rebekah Sewing Circle met recently, election of officers was held. New officers are Mrs. Arthur Albus, president; Mrs. John Cook, vice president; Mrs. Martin Hjelseth, secretary and Mrs. Ardell Montgomery, treasurer.

A Glenfield landmark vanished over the weekend as the Thompson garage was razed.

Births - girl to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Quesenberry, February 20.

Property owners in Foster County will see their next tax bill in a different format. County commissioners okayed the purchase of a computer tax program for the offices of the auditor and treasurer. Noreen Barton, deputy treasurer, said currently the tax statements for the county's approximately 5,000 parcels of taxable property are typed manually, with the legal descriptions and the tax bill, on one statement, under the new system, individual parcels, along with their tax bill will appear on separate statements so property owners will receive separate statements for each parcel.

Ed Morlock was crowned king and Olga Krueger was chosen as queen during a ceremony at the Foster County Senior Citizens' Center. A dinner was held and the Pea Pickers of the Plains provided entertainment.

Valentine's Day kings and queens were chosen at Golden Acres Manor and Carrington Health Center Long Term Care on Feb. 14. Violet Verguson and Ray Eide were named at Golden Acres while Lucille Lamm and Al Ihringer were chosen at CHC.

Births - daughter, Joselyn, to Michelle and Larry Polries of Sykeston, February 14, 1997, at Carrington Health Center.

Kimberly Allmaras, a member of the Carrington Gymnastics Club, accomplished an impressive feat on Feb.15 - she took first place in the all-around division at a meet in Grand Forks.

Brandt's Carpet and Furniture has been named the Carrington Area Chamber of Commerce's business of the fourth quarter for 1996.
