HWC Hornets coast past Titans by 25

Harvey-Wells County started strong and kept the momentum throughout the game, defeating Griggs-Midkota by 25 points in Glenfield on Thursday, February 10.

Five Hornets found the scoring column in the first quarter, and four of them scored at least four points as the Hornets opened the game up scoring 20 points in the first and holding the Griggs-Midkota offense to just a three pointer and four free- throws in the first eight minutes.

The scoring evened out in the second as Jaxon Gronneberg scored eight for the Titans, while Gabe Allmaras and Isaac Friese both scored five for HWC as the Hornets led, 33-19, at the half.

HWC opened the second half with a 7-0 run, as four different players found the bottom of the basket. Logan Topp would add a deuce and a three for G-M, but HWC responded with another 7-0 run highlighted by a three from Brock Fike as the Hornets built their lead to 49-23. The Titans would go on a 9-2 run before Keaton Keller ended the third with a field goal for HWC as they led, 53-32, with eight minutes to play.

Brady Haugen, who was held scoreless through the first three quarters, scored 11 points for the Titans in the fourth. On the other side, HWC got seven from Allmaras and six from Alex Erickson and six players found the scoring column in the fourth for HWC as they cruised to a 75-50 victory.

Allmaras led five Hornets in double figures with 20 points. Others hitting doubles for HWC included Tate Grossman (14), Erickson (12), Friese (10) and Keller with 10.

Gronneberg led the Titans on the night with 13 points while Haugen finished with 11.

Griggs-Midkota dropped to 4-12 overall with the loss.

Last Tuesday night, HWC played host to Carrington in Fessenden, and came away with a 61-48 win over the Cardinals. HWC now sits at 14-3, while the Cardinals fell to 8-10.
