Brecken Lura works on the shoulders of HWC's Christian Mertz in the 138-pound semifinals at the Region 2 Individual Tournament in Walhalla. Lura, a defending state champion for the Cards, currently sits just three wins shy of the school record for career victories held by three-time CHS state champion and Northern State University wrestler Walker Carr, with 236. Due to the fact that the Cards qualified for the dual state tournament as well, Lura should have several opportunities to break the mark. Along with PCN's Trevor Hinkle, he was also named Region 2 Co-Senior Athlete of the Year.
Carrington got eight of their 12 wrestlers qualified for the following week's State B Individual Tournament in Fargo with a solid showing at the Region 2 meet in Walhalla Saturday, February 12.
With a score of 183 points, the Cards finished in third in the team standings behind host and meet champion Pembina Co. North and Central Cass, who won the Region 2 Dual tourney the weekend prior.
