There aren’t too many examples of basketball games in which the score is tied at every quarter break in regulation.
But that’s the situation that the M-P-B Thunder and Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels found themselves in their regular season finale in Edgeley Thursday, February 17.
Knotted up at 6-6, 20-20, 28-28 and 41-41, one made basket from the Rebels’ Adam Nitschke made all the difference in four minutes of overtime play, and a 43-42 setback for the Thunder.
Nitschke led E-K-M with 16 points, and Dylan Carlson aided the Rebel cause with eight, including two three-pointers. Brad Kinzler scored five of his seven points in the fourth quarter, which also loomed large in the final score.
M-P-B couldn’t overcome struggles at the free-throw line which may have made the difference between win 15 and loss number five, going just 8-for-18 (44.4%) at the stripe.
Josh Moser and Rylen Wick paced the Thunder with 13 and 12 points, and Mark Thomas also had 10.
