Carrington City Library launches summer reading program May 23

Join us this summer as we explore Oceans of Possibilities through programs, books and activities at the Carrington City Library.

The 2022 Summer Reading Program is open to everyone with reading challenges from the littlest readers (toddler through preschool), Emerging Readers (entering grade K-2), Independent Readers (entering grades 3-6), Teens and Adults.

Readers who complete reading challenges will earn weekly incentives and entries in the grand prize drawings. Awards will be given to the top readers at each level.

Registration for the Summer Library Program begins on May 23. Registrations can be completed by going to the library website at carringtonlibrary.org, calling the library at 652-3921, e-mailing [email protected] or stopping at the library.

Each week’s Summer Reading schedule includes a variety of activities. Mondays will be Yoga at the Courthouse Park (weather permitting) from 9:30 –10:00 and Movies & Munchies at 3:00. Tuesdays feature STEM activities at 10:30 and Arts & Crafts at 3:00. On Wednesdays, we will continue our preschool storytime at 10:00. Thursdays activities are Arts & crafts at 10:30 and STEM at 3:00.

A description of activities for the week will be available on the library website, e-mailed to registered participants, and posted to social media. Everyone is welcome to attend, and participating in the reading challenges is not required. All programs are free of charge.

New this year are reading camps! On May 31, the library will host a half-day reading camp for children entering grades K-2. The camp runs from 8:00 – noon. A light breakfast and snack will be served. The day will include some reading, a STEM activity, craft project, etc.

A full-day camp for children entering grades 3-6 will be held on Tuesday, June 2 from 8:00 – 5:00. The camp will include a light breakfast, snacks, and lunch. The day will include some reading, an Escape Room activity, a craft project, a STEM activity, a movie, etc. Registration is required as space is limited. To register, call or e-mail the library or visit the library for an online registration link.

The Summer Reading program will end with a swim party in late July to recognize success and celebrate reading.
