The Kids Experience seeks donations

CARRINGTON, N.D. – The summer activity season is kicking off soon, but not everyone will make a smooth transition into these activities.

Activities for youth are plentiful in the Carrington area, but what if that paycheck only covers enough for food and rent? Anything extra might have to wait. Enter: “The Kid Experience.”

Introduced in 2014, with activities/fund matches beginning in 2015, the program helps connect local children and families with sponsors who are willing to provide the finances needed for enrollment fees and/or equipment. Sponsors can be individuals or organizations and funds are needed right now, as several requests have been coming in.

The Kid Experience is a program of the local Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC), working to create a healthier community to live, work and play. Angela Boeshans, the Kid Experience Coordinator, states, “All funds are paid directly to the organization (i.e. sports club, school, etc.) hosting the activity, so there is no exchange of money between the person requesting and the person donating; all information is kept confidential.

The Kid Experience is intended to help kids ages 5 to 18 years of age. There is a limit of $150/child or a family cap of $300/year and may need to be reassessed as fees continue to increase each year.

While every effort is made to find a recipient and sponsor match, there is no guarantee a match will be found. In 2021, nearly $1,000 was used to help eighteen children seeking a healthy experience.

If you are interested in donating or to make a request, please contact Angela at (701) 650-8857 or e-mail her at [email protected]. A very basic application is filled out by the person requesting or donating. Individuals interested in donating can also request to be placed on the donor list in case a need arises.

Applications can be picked up at Carrington’s Daily Bread, Carrington City Library, Carrington Elementary School or printed out from the group’s Website at healthycarrington.org.

The organization welcomes those interested in helping our community become healthier to attend their regular meetings on third Thursday of each month from 12-1 p.m. at the Carrington City Library.
