Softball gets back in win column; beat PCN

The first-year Carrington softball program registered their second win of the season in Larimore with a 14-12 back-and-forth victory over the Pembina County North Grizzlies Tuesday, May 10.

Carrington scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally back from a 12-9 deficit.

In the win, Kennedy Wendel was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, and Kaydence VanRay and Brynn Smith also had three-hit afternoons. Isabel Wendel (two hits) and Lauren Hendrickson had doubles, and hits additionally came from Bailey Ness and Calleigh Hewitt.

Hewitt went the distance on the mound for the victory.

The Cards were saddled with a hard-luck 6-5 loss to the Larimore Polar Bears that day. The big rally for the home team came in the fifth, with a four-run burst.

Offensive leaders for CHS included Isabel Wendel's three hits, including a double, and Hendrickson also tripled. Smith, along with Tesslin Lura and Haley Wolsky, added singles.

Against the Thompson Tommies on May 13, the Cards took a 14-1 defeat despite getting 10 hits.

Wolsky had three of those, with two more by VanRay (with a triple in the mix) and a pair courtesy of Kennedy Wendel. Also with hits were Hendrickson, Ness and Isabel Wendel.

The Cards finished their regular season with a non-conference trip to Fessenden last Tuesday to take on HWC. The final score of that game was 16-0 in favor of the Hornets.

Books from Carrington/HWC were not available.

The Region 2 Tournament began at May-Port-CG High School on Saturday, May 21, and continues on to today (Monday) and Tuesday.

First round pairings were not made public until last Wednesday night, after the Independent had already gone to press.

When they are available, they will be posted to the Web site at http://www.fosterconews.com and to the Independent Facebook page.
