CHS' season ends with loss to L/E/M at Reg. 2

One year in the books for Carrington softball came to an end at the Region 2 Tournament in Mayville Saturday, May 21.

The fifth-seeded Cardinals and first-year Head Coach Sara Laib fell to the Langdon/Edmore/Munich Cardinals at Jerome Berg Field at MSU, 16-3, to conclude with a 2-8 mark for the 2022 spring.

The teams were playing in the first round game, which was a single-elimination contest. Had Carrington won, they would have reached the double elimination portion of the tournament.

Calleigh Hewitt got the start in the circle, and was relieved by Kaydence VanRay in the second inning. VanRay hit a triple for the Cards' lone extra-base hit.

The three other hits came from Lauren Hendrickson and Brynn Smith, each going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and a run scored, and Taya Lura also had a hit and run in the loss.

L/E/M's offense was paced by a home run from sophomore center fielder Jada Moen, who had two hits for the northern birds. Langdon notched seven hits and reached base via walk 17 times.

The top three seeds, Thompson, May-Port-CG and Grafton, all advanced to the final day of play this past Tuesday. MPCG and Thompson ended up qualifying for the state tournament, with the Patriots taking a 16-5 win in the championship.

Since there are only four regions, the top two teams in each region advanced to the State B Softball Tournament at Tharaldson Park in Fargo June 2-4.
