The 2022 Community Development class at Carrington High School was awarded a $1,200 grant from the National FFA Living to Serve Semester Long Grant.
This grant is being put towards an amazing cause in the Carrington community. Their main focus was geared towards the nursing home residents at our local nursing home. The high school class built wheelchair accessible raised garden beds for the residents and Golden Acres Manor and Estates.
The initiative of this class is to better the lives of the residents through providing a new activity for them to take part in when outside. "Many of the residents have gardened or farmed in their younger years," states a senior, Rori Ricter, in the class. "We strive to enable them to reminisce about their past years and do something they enjoy."
The class built the garden beds in April and May and moved them over to Golden Acres at the end of May. This experience will bring a younger and older group of people together towards one common goal. The staff of Golden Acres Manor are excited and eager to work with the Community Development class to better the lives of the residents one day at a time.
