Lake Hiawatha Fishing Derby

The Lake Hiawatha Fishing Derby was held at Sykeston City Park Sunday afternoon, June 5, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Children ages 4-to-12 participated in the event, which is held as part of the state of North Dakota's Free Fishing Weekend June 4-5, which is sponsored by the state Game and Fish Department.

The Derby, organized by Jon and Tina Oatis, brought 99 registrants to the Lake Hiawatha shores to get their chances to land a lunker. Prizes were awarded to the top boys and girls in three different age groups.

The event was sponsored by donations from Carrington Drug, Bremer Bank, Mozelle Landscaping, Frito Lay, Speldrich Construction, NAPA, CBS' Bar and Grill, Bickett Insurance, Nodak Insurance, Cindy and Brad Tweed, Dry Dock Sports, Sykeston American Legion Post 17, Arrowwood Prairie Co-op, OK Tire, Hiway Drive-In, Golden Acres Manor, Carrington Rose Garden, Five-Spot, Miller Elevator Co., DJ's Home Center, Central Pharmacy, Garden Gate, Farmers Union Insurance-Randy Hooey, Community Credit Union, Harildstad Tax Service, Wholesale Ag Products, Fessenden Co-op Association, Leevers Foods, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., North Dakota Game and Fish, Larsen Plumbing and Heating, Chieftain and Subway.
