HWC's Lematta named to All-State softball team

Harvey-Wells County senior Haleigh Lematta was chosen as one of the top 18 Class B softball players recognized for the All-State team.

The right-handed pitcher and shortstop for the Hornets posted some very impressive statistics.

Lematta batted .614 for HWC, with six home runs and 24 RBIs. She scored 33 runs and had 14 stolen bases this past season, and posted a .646 on-base percentage.

In the pitcher's circle, she was equally dominant, posting a 13-6 record and a 1.77 earned-run average (ERA), along with a sparkling 0.71 walks to hits per inning pitched (WHIP). She struck out 233 batters during her starts, and threw a no-hitter and three one-hitters.

She helped lead a very-young HWC team with just five players over freshman age this past 2022 spring season.

Haleigh is the daughter of Justin and Heather Lematta of Fessenden. She plans to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., where she will major in dietetics and exercise science and play softball for the Cobbers.

Her older sister, Jennah, is a member of the women's softball program at Dakota College at Bottineau.

This past season, Lematta was the 140-pound state champion in the inaugural Class B Girls' Wrestling Tournament, and concluded her year on the mats with a perfect 26-0 record.
