Redbirds Babe Ruth falls in squeaker, 5-4

It isn't a district game when Carrington's and New Rockford's Babe Ruth baseball programs meet up with each other, but the competitive juices don't flow any less.

The home-standing Black Sox overcame an early 4-2 hole with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, and held the Redbirds off the scoreboard for the final four innings in a 5-4 victory early Tuesday afternoon, June 21.

New Rockford's mid-game rally made a winner out of Skye Kramlich. The Sox righty allowed five Redbird hits in a complete game performance, with four earned runs and 11 strikeouts along with just a single walk.

At the top of the Carrington lineup, shortstop Josh Bickett was dealing deuces, as he went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs on the bases, and two steals.

Corbin Clifton drove in two runs for the 'Birds, scored twice and had two hits, and Ryder Bickett plated a run with a triple in three at-bats.

Max Whitman threw 21 pitches in the first inning, not recording an out before giving way to Tate Wolsky in relief. Wolsky would finish the game with eight hits and three runs allowed (two earned) in six innings of work and 87 total pitches.

For New Rockford's side of the offense, Dashyl Bichler had a good day batting with a 2-for-3 showing and an RBI. Connor Knatterud doubled, stole a base, scored twice and added an RBI, and Jackson Schumacher, Thomas Allmaras and Brody Weisenburger had the other three hits.

Carrington (now 1-4 overall) was scheduled to play a District 6 doubleheader with Ellendale last Monday, but those plans were put on hold due to rain. The games will be made up this Thursday, June 30, and will replace the New Rockford game on the upcoming schedule. There is no intent at this time to reschedule with New Rockford, since it is not a district game.

The coming week will be an action-packed one for Carrington Babe Ruth. In addition to Ellendale, today (June 27,) the team faces Ashley/Linton/Wishek at City Park, then goes to Edgeley on Tuesday. All games are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. for Ellendale)
