One step back, two steps forward

The Carrington Redbirds have been winning big or not at all.

On Tuesday, June 28, Carrington traveled to Edgeley for Babe Ruth baseball, where the Redbirds were unable to overcome an offensive barrage.

Tate Wolsky managed to start the scoring for Carrington after smacking a leadoff single and being driven home later in the inning. Edgeley, however, set the tone in the bottom of the first, responding with four runs of their own - thanks in large part to Redbird errors.

Carrington briefly tied the game back up and went on to enjoy a seven-run fourth inning, but Edgeley was more than able to keep pace, scoring 13 runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

The Redbirds weren't able to catch up in the closing innings, allowing Edgeley to streak clear and earn a lopsided 22-12 win.

A couple days later, on Thursday, June 30, Carrington played host to the other team from Dickey County, Ellendale, for a double header.

It quickly became clear that Ellendale were outclassed by the Redbirds, as both games in the double header were over just about as soon as they began.

In Game No. 1, Carrington scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning alone, followed by another nine in the second. The highlight of the afternoon was an inside-the-park home run from starting pitcher Corbin Clifton.

Clifton walloped the ball hard down the left-side foul line, which was mishandled by an Ellendale defender and reached the fence. Clifton was beckoned home by his teammates in the dugout, who later greeted him with whoops and hollers as he crossed home plate.

With the result a forgone conclusion after

two innings, Carrington kicked in cruise control and eased their way to a 23-0 win.

Game No. 2 didn't bring Ellendale any more fortune, as they once again struggled to find offense, let alone stop Carrington from having their way at the batter's box.

The result was another comfortable win for the Redbirds, closing Game No. 2 with a 16-2 victory - their second of the day via mercy rule.
