Highlights from National Night Out 2022

National Night Out, an annual event celebrating Carrington's longstanding coordination between law enforcement, first responders and the community they serve, was held Tuesday evening, August 2, at City Park.

The occasion is traditionally held the first Tuesday of August, except in Texas, when it is celebrated in October.

The event's history in the United States dates back to 1984, and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. It had very humble beginnings, as community residents would turn their porch lights on and sit in front of their homes, to demonstrate vigilance and a united front in combating crime and demonstrating the power of united neighborhoods.

Back then, the first NNO involved 2.5 million residents, spread out throughout 400 communities in 23 states. By 2016, the event's popularity grew to 38 million in 16,000 communities throughout the nation.

National Night Out's purpose is to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

Carrington's festivities included a cookout, bouncy games, karaoke, booths, and bubble machine.

This year's event was dedicated to the memory of late Carrington Police Chief Brandon Sola.
