Retzlaff purchases Swanson Seeds

After working for Swanson Seeds since 2002, Doug Retzlaff has now bought the Pioneer Seeds distributorship on the north end of Carrington.

Renamed Retzlaff Seed & Supply, LLC, Retzlaff purchased the business from David Swanson effective August 1, but will retain the former owner's commitment to excellent service to area crop producers.

"I appreciate the opportunity to take over the Pioneer agency and continue working with customers that I have worked with over the last 20 years," Retzlaff says. "My new business will build off what David has taught me, as he has always been 100 percent dedicated to the farmer."

Swanson Seeds began over 30 years ago when Swanson sold seed out of his garage, and he was still able to fit the family car as well.

Over time, as row crop acres expanded, Swanson invested in what would become the present warehouse on Highway 281 to meet the growing demands of the business, and provided a brand of top notch customer service that continued to the present day.

Speaking to area farmers, Swanson says, "I will continue to be active in my farming operation. It has been a great and rewarding business working with all of you. I appreciate the support you have given us over the years, and ask for your continued support as Doug establishes himself in the community with his own business."

In addition to Pioneer Seed, Retzlaff will continue to grow and offer cover crop and custom seed mixes.

When he's not behind the desk at the business, Retzlaff operates a small beef cattle operation. He and his wife, Holly, have four children, Bailey, Jacey, Beau, and Jozey.

"I wish to offer a heartfelt thank you on the opportunity I have been given," Retzlaff concluded.
