M-P-B beats Ellendale, but falls to South Border in five sets

M-P-B had a good start to the week, taking a four-set win over Ellendale on September 8, but were unable to pull out the all-important District 6 opener against South Border.

The Thunder rode three players with double-digit kills to the victory in Dickey County, 25-21, 25-16, 25-27 and 25-14.

Allison Thomas' 17 kills led the way, with Maddie Gefroh also providing presence with 15 kills and freshman Brynn Sorenson adding 10 more to the tally.

In back row play, Alaina Bosche's 40 digs led the way, followed by 25 from Thomas and 15 apiece by Lilly Bohl (38 assists as well) and and Sorenson.

Gefroh and Kelsey Vandeberghe kept the Cardinal hitters in check for the most part, registering three stuff blocks each.

South Border 3, M-P-B 2

The Thunder dropped the first two sets to their league rivals in Medina, then fought back for two impressive set wins before ultimately faltering in the fifth set.

Scores for the match were 21-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16 and 9-15.

It was Sorenson's turn to be match leader offensively, as she had 15 kills over the marathon affair and Thomas contributed 11 more. Gefroh nearly made it another double-figure night, hitting for nine.

Both Thomas and Bosche eclipsed the 20-dig mark for the match (24 and 21, respectively). and Bohl put up 40 assists. Kalen Kinzell made her mark from the service line with four aces.
