Obituary: Elenora Hamann

Elenora Hamann

Elenora M. Hamann, 95, Chaseley, N.D., passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022. She went to be with the Lord with a loved one at her side at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 7 at the Chaseley United Methodist Church. Rev. Warren Rhodes officiated and burial was in the Chaseley Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6 with a family prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the church.

Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, North Dakota.

Elenora May Nelson was born May 28, 1927, at Chaseley, N.D. At that time, it was called Doc Clay's place. A few months later, they moved to where she has resided for 93 years. Her mother became ill and she started managing the household at age 10. She attended school in Chaseley then graduated from Bowdon High School. She loved to play basketball and was an avid baseball fan.

On June 7, 1946, she married the love of her life, Marvin Hamann. They farmed with his parents for two years on the Roy Grimm place at Hurdsfield. When they moved away her dad asked them to come and help him. Those were the two years she didn't live where she was now.

Elenora and Marvin belonged to a square dancing group. Elenora, Marvin, and friends would travel to many square dances.

Elenora helped on the farm. There were cows to milk, chickens and pigs to feed and help was needed in the field. She also had a large garden. There was a lot of canning and cooking in that kitchen. She made cottage cheese and churned butter and would often would talk about cooking for the threshing crews.

There were two children born to this union. Lynda May and Teri Lynn.

Elenora was very active in her church community. She taught Sunday School, was active for the Cradle Roll of new infants and was pianist for many years. Elenora quit playing around the age of 90. She belonged to the Ladies Aid group that was very active. They had the best fried chicken dinners for their fall suppers. She belonged to the Chaseley Ladies Birthday Club, PTO. Elenora also belonged to a worship and praise ladies group that sang.

Elenora has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was proud of everyone and loved them so much. She especially liked to visit with them on the phone or in person. She loved all the things they made and gave to her over the years. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. She did a lot of baking and taught needlework to her granddaughters active in 4-H.

She loved spending time with her family who she loved tremendously. She was always grateful and appreciative of everything and will be remembered for her loving and giving heart, her smile and the beautiful person she was. She will be missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by daughters, Lynda (John) and Teri Lausch; grandchildren, Dana Lausch, Alicia Roller, Jessica and Ben Lervick and Lyndsey (Josh Zein) Roller; great-grandchildren, Gage, Kayleigh, Shaylynn, Teagen Roller, and Owen and Hudson Lervick.

She was preceded in death by Marvin, her husband; her parents, Martin and Bertha Nelson; one grandchild; sister, Betty Koenig; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Tillie Hamann; sister-in-law, Shirley Vogler and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins.
