Carrington third/fourth grade football unbeaten, again

The third and fourth grade Carrington "Cardinals" football team just completed a very successful season. They placed first in their conference, went 5-0 during the regular season, and finished with an overall 8-0 record. They faced Rugby, New Rockford-Sheyenne, Harvey-Wells County, Cooperstown, Edgeley and Oakes, and defeated their opponents by a combined score of 246-51. In the past two seasons, this age group has won 15 consecutive games following a 7-0 finish in 2021.

Coach Randy Hooey said, "This group of kids is not only talented, they also are a great group to be around, and get along so well with each other. The team camaraderie is second to none, and they all cheer each other on equally."

The team is made up of 22 kids from the Carrington, Kensal and Pingree-Buchanan school districts. The highlights of the season were winning the conference championship in a 6-0 thriller over HWC in front of a nice crowd in Carrington, and they capped the season off by playing in the Fargodome and beating Oakes, 32-16, in what was a great experience for all the kids.

Game scores were as follows: Cooperstown, 32-6; Edgeley, 30-0; Rugby, 20-0; HWC, 38-14; NR-S, 42-7; Cooperstown (conference tourney semifinals), 46-8; HWC (conference championship), 6-0; Oakes (Fargodome), 32-16.

Team members are, front row (L-R): Tristan Schroeder, Jase Rude, Charles Sauby, Weston Irmen, Gannon Inglish, Briggs Garber and Braylon Sauvageau. Middle row: Chase Somsen, Crosby Spitzer, Jackson Topp, Jameson Hastings, Landin Clifton, Jack Skadberg and Cullen Ekren. Back row: Cooper Johnson, Adrian Oatis, Graham Kuginskie, Laken Johnson, Radke Hooey, Michael VandeHoven, Brooks Mozelle and Miles Thurlow.

A season synopsis for the fifth and sixth grade football team will be published in the October 17 edition of the Independent.
