HWC started the night off on the right foot keeping game one close but the Rugby serving and setting took over and the Panthers dominated the visitors in a 3-0 sweep of the Hornets on Tuesday, October 11, in Rugby.

The first half of game one was a back-and-forth event, with the Hornets holding a slim 6-4 lead on kills from Larissa Arnold and Aubree Wolfe. Rugby opened up a brief 11-7 lead before HWC pulled back to within one at 12-11 on a Hornet block. Then, Mykell Heidlebaugh stepped to the service line and promptly delivered the next 13 points with numerous aces and an assortment of kills from Lacie Deplazes and Peyton Hauck, as the Panthers took game one, 25-11.

The Panther momentum continued for most of game two, as Deplazes's kills kept coming in batches. With Rugby holding the lead at 7-3, the Panthers rattled off 11 straight to take a commanding 18-3 lead. The Hornets managed to work their way out of the doldrums, scoring five of the next eight points on kills from Rachel Neumiller and Arnold, but a Deplazes kill ended game two with Rugby winning 25-13.

HWC started out stronger in game three, as an Arnold kill and Kayme Bartz ace cut the Rugby lead to 7-5. Two kills from Savannah McCall and another from Hauck showed the dominance of the Panthers at the net, as they opened up a 15-7 lead. Kills from Bartz and Neumiller pulled HWC to within four at 16-12, but the strength of the 10 seniors on the Rugby team prevailed as Kendra Leier and Angeline Risovi all had multiple kills or blocks to give game three and the match to Rugby, 25-16.

The Hornets trailed 5-4 in game two, but Badding rattled off four consecutive aces as the Cardinals quickly jumped to a 14-4 lead. Taryn Amble's two aces, along with a kill from Jalynn Swanson helped the Cardinals win game two, 25-9.
