Murphy vs. Thornton for district judgeship only contested race

The midterm general election is just days away.

Since it is not a presidential election year, the focus will be on other offices both state-wide and local.

Foster County interim auditor Ellen Roundy reported that as of press time, her office has had 590 ballots requested and has seen 369 returned so far.

The only contested local race this year is the Judge of District Court No. 2.

Foster County native son Paul Murphy is running against Nick Thornton for the judgeship.

County offices up for re-election are as follows:

Incumbents Alan Scanson and Scott Beumer are running unopposed for their county commission seats in districts 2 and 4, respectively.

Ellen Roundy is running unopposed for the position of county auditor.

Kara Brinster is running unopposed for the Foster County State’s Attorney seat.

Lynelle Lyman Hoppe and Dianne Hertel are running unopposed for the positions of county recorder and treasurer of Foster County.

Finally, Justin Johnson is also running unopposed for the office of sheriff.

Foster County has one measure on the ballot this year: County Measure No. 001.

This measure asks voters to approve a one half mill increase for the county historical society to help maintain the Foster County Historical Society, the Foster County Museum and the Putnam House.

Voters can cast their vote at the Carrington City Library Community Room from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
