Bearcats rule nets in sweep over HWC

Elle Nicholas had nine kills in the opening set to help the North Star Bearcats claw their way to a 3-0 sweep of the Harvey-Wells County Hornets in Region 4 volleyball action in Fessenden on Tuesday, October 18.

Game one started with Nicholas notching three kills in seven North Star points. Payton Harpestad added an ace, and the Bearcats led, 7-2. The Hornets got two kills from Rachel Neumiller but never really pulled any closer. Nicholas added four kills in the final five points as the visitors won the first set, 25-14.

The Hornets opened up game two in a very competitive way. Ashley Keller, Kayme Bartz and Larissa Arnold had kills as the game was tied at 6-all early on. Harpestad knocked down three kills and a block to start an 8-0 run, as North Star jumped out to a 14-6 lead. Two more Nicholas kills kept the momentum rolling, as the Bearcats won game two, 25-11.

Nicholas once again started strong for the visitors in game three with two kills early, leading North Star to a 15-8 lead. The Hornets had some help from some Bearcat errors, but nonetheless improved their play midway through the game, as they pulled to within one at 15-14 with kills from Emma Dockter and Keller. Another kill from Dockter and Bartz kept HWC close as they trailed 20-19. Harpestad continued her solid play with two kills down the stretch, as North Star claimed game three and the match, 3-0, with a 25-20 win.

The Hornets were led in hitting by Neumiller and Keller with five kills each. Kali Fike led in assists with 19 and digs with 10, while Delaney Erfle delivered three aces to pace the Hornets.
