Second All-State run for Pazdernik; takes 7th place

At Parkhurst Recreation Area Friday, October 21, Carrington sophomore Kenadie Pazdernik had another strong finishing kick to conclude a successful season on area courses.

Pazdernik, who took 12th among all girls' runners last season, improved that standing to seventh with a final time of 20 minutes, 3.25 seconds at the State Class B Meet held north of Jamestown.

The team races at the 2022 meet belonged to the present dynasties.

The Rugby Panthers won their fourth consecutive girls' championship with 89 points, beating Bowman County (118) in second. Rugby had two All-State runners (placing third and fifth) and Bowman three, but the Panthers' depth in their third through fifth runners outshone the Bulldogs' final two scorers for the crown.

Rounding out the top five teams were Hillsboro/Central Valley (151), Kindred (227) and Grafton (268).

Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark freshman Brynn Hanson won her second straight individual title in a blistering 18:57.49, almost 11 seconds ahead of runner-up Addie Miller of Killdeer.

After winning the region title the previous week in Cooperstown, Hatton-Northwood's Jenna Soine had a slight struggle, placing 16th, but still making the All-State cut.

However, the talk of the meet was the absolute mastery of the boys' race from the three-peat champion Bulldogs. Bowman County was one top-five placing away from a perfect score, led by state champion Austin Wanner, and they got the second, fourth, fifth and sixth place performances to boot.

In fact, BC had such a strong race, their sixth runner also made All-State, but did not even count in the team scores. HCV's Christian Brist, last week's East Region champion, kept the 'Dogs from the sweep by placing third.

Kindred was a distant second with 104 points, followed by New Town (107), HCV (141) and Rugby (242) in spots three through five.

The Griggs/Midkota boys did very well with an eighth place run (329 points), and had two top-50 runners in Gavin Nelson (26th, 17:51.31) and Eli Larson (48th, 18:25.96).

Carrington runners, aside from Pazdernik, placed in the following order:

Boys: Trace Hoggarth, 69th, 18:47.78; Ewan Aberle, 140th, 20:08.81; Joe Lindberg, 167th, 20:37.58; and Ben Gustafson, 312th, 25:15.82.

Girls: Baylee Lura, 62nd, 22:07.26; Jaedyn Lura, 103rd, 23:05.47; Molly Fiebiger, 170th, 24:40.48; Macy Fiebiger, 191st, 25:33.13; Nela Mc-Kibben, 256th, 31:26.48.

The Cardinal girls placed 19th overall as a team with 533 points.
