John Aljets

John Wayne Aljets, 83, passed away on October 24, 2022, in Ocala, Florida.

He was born September 30, 1939, in Carrington, N.D., to Francis Lee and Mary Ellen (Butts) Aljets.

John, a hardworking farm boy, graduated from Carrington High School in June of 1957.

After a term at Valley City State College, he entered the US Army in January 1958 as a Private First Class and retired in 1984 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

After basic training, John served in Frankfurt, Germany, where he met his wife of over 60 years, Hannelore Schunk. The couple had three children: Susanne, Patricia and Michael.

John was stationed in many states, three times in Germany and two tours in Vietnam. During his military service, he completed his Bachelors degree at Park College (Missouri) and Masters degree at North Dakota State University.

After military retirement, John worked in defense contracting until he retired to Florida. John was a boating enthusiast for many years, after which he took up golf which he thoroughly enjoyed. John was an avid Minnesota Vikings and NDSU Bison fan.

John is survived by his wife, Hannelore; daughters, Susanne Setser (Craig Robertson) and Patricia Sem (Claude); son, Michael Aljets (Heather); brother, Curt Aljets (Cathy); grandchildren, Katie Peterson (Cody), Kimberly Keller (Justin), John Setser, Kelli Sem, Zachary Aljets and Samantha Aljets; and five great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, LeAnna Lemen, Cheryl Gall and his brother, Francis Aljets.
