Dakota Recreation Report: November 7, 2022

Outdoor notes:

*Reminder that most roads and trails closed to hunting if posted on both sides.

*Check all PLOTS signage before driving on with vehicles when waterfowl hunting to ensure landowner allows vehicles.

*Hunters reminded to put identification on tree stands and blinds when set up on N.D. Game & Fish Dept. WMAs.

*Waterfowl hunters reminded to follow ANS regulations when hunting from boats.

*Nov. 7: Fall crow season closes.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation, Nov. 1: 1,449.28 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

*Stump Lake elevation: 1,449.33 MSL.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: 1,833.36 MSL; 13,900 cubic feet per second average (CFS) Garrison Dam daily releases.

*N.D. Game & Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: No new reports.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Continued good walleye success throughout much of the lake. Try a variety of presentations.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Continued walleye success. Try trolling.

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: No activity throughout area lakes.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Pioneer Bait & Tackle, Jamestown: Area lakes remain quiet.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Little activity throughout area lakes.

*Lake Ashtabula, The Hungry Pelican at the Crossing, Luverne: Limited activity.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: Limited activity with anglers waiting for the transition to ice. Lake draw-down continues and area docks are out of the water.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait & Tackle, Garrison: East end of Lake Sakakawea continues producing walleye around Deepwater Bay. Missouri River tailrace improving in the chutes for walleye.

*Lakes Audubon & Sakakawea, Hwy. 83 Lawn & Leisure, Garrison: Continued walleye success on the east end of Lake Sakakawea around Douglas Bay working shallow water 10 to 15 feet using jigs and minnows.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Missouri River tailrace elevation remains low with little activity. Walleye remain farther west around Beaver and Beulah bays more so than the east end on Lake Sakakawea.

*Lonetree WMA area lakes, Harvey: No new reports from area lakes.

Hunting:

*Deer: Look for fair success although numbers will be likely down along the Missouri River System.

*Upland: Continued pheasant success with harvest closer to completion.

*Waterfowl: Most ducks around central N.D. are still puddle ducks and not much northern movement yet. Not much for northern movement yet in the Devils Lake area, although some snow geese moving in. Mostly local birds around the Towner-Rugby area yet although northern birds moving in along the northern tier around Bottineau. Increasing numbers of northern birds moving into areas east of the Missouri River System and farther south along the Missouri River, including whitefronts and lesser Canada geese.
