An exhausted and dejected group of Cardinal players are left to ponder what might have been in the aftermath of a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Linton-HMB Lions in the Region 3 championship match Friday afternoon, November 11, in Napoleon. The Cards fell in the first two sets, but came back with wins in the third and fourth games to set up the winner-take-all fifth set. Front row, L-R: Mya Schroeder, Kacie Rexin, Madison Johnson, Emma Hone, Edyn Hoornaert, Isabel Wendel and Brynn Smith. Back row: Assistant Coach Josey Skytland, Head Coach Megan Trautman, Kennedy Wendel, Haley Wolsky, Allison Jarrett, Mercedes Lura, Kylie Skadberg, Sydney Friedt and Kaydence VanRay.

The enormity of the potential accomplishment for the Carrington Cardinal volleyball team was close at hand.

Down two sets to the back-to-back reigning state champions in Linton-HMB, the Cards pulled off a comeback for the ages in the third and fourth sets, and were up 5-1 in the decisive fifth set, 10 points shy of the biggest, or at least the most emotional, victory in program history.
