Mat boys finish in seventh place at Velva

Thirteen total Carrington wrestlers made their way onto the mats for the Velva Invitational, and the team came away with a seventh-place showing over the two-day meet held Friday-Saturday, December 2-3 in Velva.

Carrington scored 223 points at the meet, won by Northern Lights with 294. Bishop Ryan finished second, host Velva third, and HWC came in fourth.

The Cardinal boys had one champion, Trace Hoggarth at 126 pounds. Hoggarth got pins in his first four matches all the way to the finals, where he won a high-scoring 13-8 affair over John Jundt of Rugby.

CHS nearly had another title winner, as 160-pounder Kael Kovar made his way to the finals with two pins and two decision victories before surrendering just an escape to fall to Larimore's Colter Thorsell in the championship, 1-0.

Skye Kramlich (106) and Nic Garber (132) had top three finishes, with Garber winning six of seven head-to-head battles and Kramlich five out of his seven.

At 138 pounds, Corbin Clifton came in fourth, and Dru Carr, wrestling at 120, placed fifth.

In the 170-pound junior varsity division, Jacob Hinrichs had the top finish in his round robin bracket with a 5-1 record. Hinrichs got pins in all five of his matches, including avenging the loss to the May-Port-CG wrestler, Josiah Campbell, who defeated him.
