Negotiations are now in the process for the purchase by W.L. Beaton and son Walter, Jr. of the real estate on which was recently situated their liquor store which was destroyed by fire. The purchase is being made from A.D. Matheny of Los Angeles, formerly of Carrington. Beaton and son plan to construct a new building on the site for the resumption of their business.
Glenn Anderson of Grace City, a member of the board of county commissioners of Foster County since December, 1942, presented his resignation at the last board meeting, stating his business interests demanded all of his time.
C.W. Jorgenson, chairman of the board, who announced Anderson’s resignation, said G.C. Black of Grace City was appointed and has been sworn in to succeed Anderson.
Henceforth the store, which has been operating under the name of Stambaugh Supply for several months, will be known as the Farm and Home Supply store. The store remains a Stambaugh brothers property with Kenneth Rusley, manager.
Miss Norma Rypka of Juanita and Miss Betty Topp and Keith Wright of Grace City left Sunday evening for Cleveland, Ohio, to attend a conference of the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Werner Lutz has been awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. by the Farmers Union for his activity in the union membership drive. The trip is awarded to each person who enrolled at least 75 members for 1948.
Effective on Monday of this week, A.G. Pierson and son, Gerald, took over the Holsum Bread trucking business, purchasing the business from D.K. Clark. The new owners will operate under the firm name of Pierson and Son.
Winner of first place in the junior Chamber of Commerce sponsored home lighting contest was the Don L Tracy family, it was announced on Tuesday night of last week by Geo. Olson, chairman of the contest committee, who selected judges.

“Before I get too heavy, I would like to get one little piece of the Kentucky Derby, that’s all.” that is Dean Kutz talking. Dean is Carrington’s only professional jockey - and one of the few jockeys in all of North Dakota. He is 16. Dean has chalked up 38 wins at race tracks in Canada and the U.S.
Valley City proved to be the most polished and effective team in the Carrington Invitational Holiday Tournament as the Hi-Liners carried home the first place trophy. Harvey captured the runner-up spot, losing to the Hi-Liners from Valley City in the second and final round.
Daniel Flegel and Virginia Barke were married Dec. 22 at Vincent United Methodist Church in Minot.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Nicolson of Carrington announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Donna Mae, to Greg Bakken, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Bakken of Carrington.
Robert Watson of Carrington, who received a Master degree in accounting from University of N.D. at mid-semester graduation on Dec. 17, has joined the accounting firm of Lybrand, Ross Brothers and Montgomery in Minneapolis beginning with the new year.
Army Pvt. Dennis W. Anderson, McHenry, has completed eight weeks of basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
Grand total for construction expenditures for 1972 was $428,500. $259,500 of the total came from 14 new residences. This compares with the 23 new dwellings built in 1971. The average cost per new home was higher this year, $18,500 compared to $16,500 in 1971.
Foster County State Bank is paying 5¾ % interest on Certificate Deposit. Each depositor is FDIC insured to $20,000.

After 42 years in the farm machinery business, Arnold Schroeder is retiring from being manager of Rosenau Equipment, Carrington’s John Deere dealership. Taking over the management position is Gaylen Rosenau.
Two area football players, Adam Heberlie of Carrington and Allen Allmaras of New Rockford, were named to the Fab 44 1997 All-Star Football Team by the Forum. Both also earned region and all-state honors.
Chuck Martinson of the Chieftan was chosen Carrington’s Employee of the Month.
Volunteers received recognition and thanks at a “Just Say Thanks” event sponsored by Aid Association for Lutherans. A program and dinner were held at Kvernes Church honoring 20 Kvernes ELCW members for their many services to church and community.
After an opening round loss to Wishek, the Carrington Cardinals posted two wins to claim the consolation championship of the Linton Invitational basketball tournament played Dec. 29-31.
Carrington’s Ann Johnson, a sophomore, was named to the Jamestown Sun’s All Area girls basketball second team along with Joanie Lenz of Midkota, Keri Lang of WTPR, DeAnn Mack of PBK, and Kodi Wipf of Wells County.
This week playing at the Carrington Youth Center Theatre - “For Richer and Poorer”.
The electrical contractors were in the new building which will house the Carrington Volunteer Fire Department. Construction has continued non-stop with the excellent winter weather to date.
