County declares snow emergency

The Foster County Commission declared a snow emergency in a special meeting last Tuesday.

During the meeting held on January 10, the board passed a motion to declare the emergency which has created a strain on the county because of snow removal due to above normal snowfall, wind and below zero temperatures.

The emergency declaration will free up county, state and federal money to help with snow removal.

Also on the agenda, the board received an update from AEPC Architects and Engineers for the basement floor project.

The board met with AEPC representatives via zoom meeting.

The architects and engineers laid out the plan for the basement project which includes removing some of the 6,300 square feet of concrete on the floor, new plumbing to the public bathrooms and utility room, two new faucets in the bathrooms and utility room which will be automatic.

They will also get rid of the electric unit heaters in the basement level.

All lower level lights will be LED and new sconces will be installed in the Rotunda.

Finishing up the project will be new tile in the bathroom and new carpet in the lower level, new steps and new doors with frosted windows for the basement offices of social services.

A motion was passed to approve the plans and to advertise for the project.
