Harvey-Wells County picked up their first regional basketball win of the year, defeating Warwick on the road with their biggest offensive output of the year as they scored 67 points. HWC turned up the defensive intensity, causing 38 Warwick turnovers and in the process picked up their third win on the season in a Super Region 4 victory over the Warriors in Warwick on Friday, January 13.

Emma Dockter scored four points, and six Hornets found the scorebook in the first quarter as HWC led, 13-6, after one.

The HWC defense forced the Warriors into 20 first half turnovers, and the offense was the recipient as they outscored Warwick, 22-8, in the second. Six Hornets again scored, with Larissa Arnold leading the way with a three-pointer and seven points, helping HWC to a 35-14 halftime lead.

Warwick had the hotter hand in the third, as Madison Cavanaugh scored eight points and helped the Warriors to a 16-13 advantage in the quarter, but the Hornets still led 48-30 after three. Braylee Keller led the Hornets in the final quarter, as the eighth grader scored eight points in the final eight minutes and helped HWC to another 20-plus point quarter in a 69-37 win.

The Hornets had four players in double digits, led by Arnold's 15. Keller added 14, Emma Dockter had 13 and Breanna Heilman chipped in with 10 points including two three-pointers.

The Warriors were led by Cavanaugh's 21 points.

The win moved HWC to 3-6 on the season, while Warwick dropped to 3-8 overall.

TGU 66, HWC 45

Bostyn Bailey knocked down back-to-back-to-back three-pointers, and Sophie Bachmeier finished the first quarter with a two- and-one.

With that, the Titans turned a 7-5 lead into a 19-5 advantage after eight minutes, and TGU never looked back in a 66-45 victory over the Hornets in Harvey on Saturday, January 14.

The Hornets were in the game early, trailing just 7-5 before the 12-0 run from TGU to end the first.

The Titans continued to control the tempo of the game into the second. A two and a three from Addison Neshem and an offensive putback from Ashley Martodam helped the Titans move the lead to 28-8. The Hornets showed a little fire to end the half, with a 8-2 run courtesy of four points from Heilman.

The Titans' Ashley Martodam controlled the offensive boards in the third quarter, as the sophomore scored 10 points and helped TGU start the quarter on a 12-2 run and a 42-18 lead. The Hornets got hot late in the third, as Emma Dockter connected on two three-pointers and Arnold added another, helping HWC to an 11-0 run and cutting the score to 50-32 after three quarters.

Bailey connected on two more treys in the fourth and Bachmeier added six more points to close the door on any Hornet comeback, as the Titans cruised to the 66-45 win.

Bailey led all players on the night with 23 points, including five from behind the arc. Martodam was dominant on the boards and Bachmeier ran the offense, as the two scored 15 and 14 respectively.
