Running Hornets race past DP, 76-41

It took the whole first quarter to get it going, but once the Harvey-Wells County Hornets got into their run-and-gun game, they dominated the remaining three quarters and brought home a 76-41 victory over the Dakota Prairie Knights in Fessenden on Monday, January 16.

The super regional matchup started with a slower-paced game, one that the Hornets prefer not to have. Keaton Keller and Tate Grossman scored six for HWC and Caden Joramo scored eight for Dakota Prairie as the Hornets led, 14-11, after one.

The HWC defense stepped up big time to open the second, forcing the Knights into several turnovers. The Hornets started the second on a 16-0 run with Grossman scoring nine on a variety of impressive driving layups and dunks. A 10-4 run from the Knights included five points from Axel Anderson, moving the score to 34-13. The Hornets finished the half off with a three from Teagan Tipton and six more points from Grossman, as HWC led, 43-21, at the half. Grossman tallied 17 points in the second quarter.

Dakota Prairie started with five quick points in the third, but the rest of the quarter was all Hornets as they finished on a 19-5 run with Gabe Allmaras scoring eight and Grossman adding six as the Hornets doubled up the Knights, 62-31.

Avery Williams scored six and Tallen Thorson added four more in the fourth as the Hornets pulled away to a 76-41 victory.

Grossman led all players on the night with 31 points, while Allmaras and Keller were also in double digits with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Joramo led the Knights on the night with 18 points, including four three-pointers.

The win moved HWC to 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in Region 4, while Dakota Prairie drops to 0-8 on the season and 0-1 in regional action.
