Trace Hoggarth gets ready to turn Hillsboro/Central Valley's Carson Kozojed for a quick 42-second pin in the semfinals at 120 pounds. Hoggarth won the class with a 7-0 decision win over Grafton's Kruiser Burns, and was the top overall seed in last week's State B Individual Tournament.
Skye Kramlich works to get free of HWC's Brody Jones in the 106-pound semifinals. Kramlich would get a pin over the Hornet wrestler, and won a 4-2 decision over Oscar Martinez of PCN in the finals.
Nic Garber also qualified for the state individual tournament, placing fourth at 126. Here, he is on the way to a technical fall win over Trever Lee of Northern Cass.
The Carrington boys' wrestling team earned state qualification in eight of the 14 total weight classes, and finished in a third-place tie with HWC in the team standings at the Region 2 Individual Tournament in Hillsboro Saturday, February 11.
Both the Cards and Hornets scored 169.5 points, behind region champion Central Cass (230 points) and Pembina Co. North (215) in second.
CHS crowned four region champions in Hillsboro. Skye Kramlich took the 106-pound class, as did defending state champion Trace Hoggarth at 120, Corbin Clifton at 138 and Kael Kovar at 152 pounds.
With their victories, the Cards will have three seeded wrestlers at the State B Tournament. Hoggarth is the top seed in his class, while Corbin Clifton will be the fourth seed and Kovar the sixth seed.
Additional state qualifiers also included 170-pound runner-up Max Ciubotareanu, third-place finishers Dru Carr (113) and Callen Garber (195), and fourth-place Nic Garber at 126.
Finishing just one spot out of the state berths was Gabe Clifton, fifth at 132 pounds.
The Cards were open at 145, 182 and 285.
The State B Individual Tournament was held this past Thursday and Friday, February 16-17, at the Fargodome.
Lisbon is the favorite to take what would be their seventh straight Class B individual title, and are also expected to compete for a five-peat in the dual tournament. South Border, Central Cass, New Salem-Almont, Velva and others are all considered strong challengers.
