Win, loss for M-P-B boys in weekly play

M-P-B enters the District 6 Tournament in Hazelton on the heels of one confidence-building victory, and a 26-point defeat at the hands of the 10th-ranked Class B team in the state.

Gage Magstadt's big 23-point evening carried the Thunder to an impressive 60-38 win over Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier on February 16.

M-P-B doubled up the Rebels at the half, 30-15, and kept up the pressure with a seven-point third quarter advantage.

Josh Moser and Rylen Wick each had 12 points in the Thunder's scoring column, and Sawyer Wanzek also had a decent supporting effort with nine.

Jacob Nitschke's 12 points led E-K-M, whose record slipped to 8-9 on the season. Joseph Kramlich was one point shy of double digits, scoring nine points.

In Pingree two days later, a very-explosive North Border Eagles team came to town and put on a show, taking the Thunder down by a 73-47 final.

The Eagles (15-2) have losses to just Region 2 rivals Thompson and Grafton, and have scored more than 80 points on nine occasions, and 90- plus three times.

Wick's 27-point night wasn't nearly enough to help M-P-B stick with the high-flying Eagles. Moser scored eight in defeat.

Senior guard Trenton Cosley, along with center Ayden Stainbrook, carried the load for North Border with 23 and 21 points. Sophomore Grant Cosley scored 12 more, followed by 11 from Kyle Thomas.

M-P-B started play on Friday, February 24, at the District 6 Tournament in Hazelton as the number three seed. They took on #6-seeded Strasburg-Zeeland, with a date against second seed Linton-HMB the reward for the winner on Saturday.

(Editor's Note: The Thunder's record is now officially 15-4 after the team received two forfeit victories over Ellendale.

The games were losses on the court for M-P-B, but it was discovered and self-reported by EHS school administration that the Cardinals had an ineligible player on their roster. Because of that, Ellendale had to forfeit seven games in which the player participated.)
