Flat effort dooms CHS in District 5 semis

In both of Carrington's games with E-K-M in the girls' Region 3 and boys' District 5 tournaments, the halftime score was 30-20.

This time around, the Rebels were the frontrunners, and if the mirror image came true, the Cards would come back for a win in this one.

It nearly came to pass, as CHS drew to within 44-42 in the fourth, but that was all the closer they would get in a 64-49 loss to the Rebels in the District 5 semifinals Monday, February 27.

The Cards really only had themselves to blame for a slow start in the first half, which saw them trail E-K-M by an eight-point margin after one quarter.

Jack Erickson and Hudson Schmitz were two of the bright spots for Carrington in the game, as both scored 13 points in the loss.

CHS struggled from both the perimeter (4-for-22) and at the foul line (7-for-17). E-K-M wasn't much better from the stripe, though they got their points in more volume, going 17-for-27.

Jacob Nitschke led E-K-M with 17 points, and Austin Strobel was close behind with 15. Zeke Barnick also added nine.

The Rebels would take the District 5 crown with a 56-53 win over LaMoure/Litchville-Marion Tuesday, February 28, ending the Loboes' two-year reign at the top of the tournament podium.
