William Trecker

William "Bill" Trecker, 83, Jamestown, N.D., died Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Eventide Nursing Home in Jamestown.

Bill was born June 29, 1939, at Jamestown, N.D., the son of John Michael and Luella Elizabeth (Blakely) Trecker. He attended grade school at Melville, N.D., and graduated from Carrington High School in 1958. He started farming with his dad on the family farm at the age of 16 raising livestock and growing small grains.

Bill and Thelma Faye Reule were married December 14, 1959, at New Rockford, N.D. They made their home on the family farm south of Carrington in Stutsman County and in 1983 they became owners and operated the Pioneer Bait Shop in Jamestown. They moved to Jamestown in the 90s and continued farming with their son. Bill entered Roseadele for memory care in July of 2018 and Ave Maria Village in December of 2021.

Bill was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pingree, having served as church treasurer and was assessor of Walter's Township board. He also was Boy Scout Master of Troop 171 in Melville.

He owned/operated Trecker Roller Skating at Carrington, Melville, Pingree and Cooperstown, and Capitol Hill Corn Maze by Fort Seward in Jamestown. He had a wholesale/retail bait vendor license in N.D. and was a vendor at the Jamestown Farmers Market.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, trapping, fishing, archery and gardening. He also loved to play cards, board games, bowling, and after a day's work on the farm, he would often gather the family to look at the fields.

Bill is survived by his wife, Thelma, of 63 years; three daughters, Luella Morehouse, Susan Trecker and Nancy (Jimmy) Burrow; six grandchildren, David (Shannan) Morehouse, Katie (Justin) Peterson, Cody Burrow, Jonathan Burrow, Sarah Burrow and Megan Trecker Brown; two great-grandchildren, Emmaline Morehouse and Juniper Peterson; and siblings, Robert Trecker and Bernadette Trecker, PBVM.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William, Jr. "Billy"; brother, John Michael III and two sisters, Dorothy Szarkowski and Maisie Meyer.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Roseadele, Ava Maria, Eventide in Jamestown and Hospice of JRMC for their compassionate, dedicated care.

Visitation was from 4 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 10 at Haut Funeral Home. Vigil service was at 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Mass of the Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday March 11 at the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, N.D. Burial will be at Carrington Cemetery in the spring.
