Robert "Bob" Bailey, age 85, of Carrington, N.D., died Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Fargo Veterans Medical Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

His visitation will be Wednesday, March 22 from 1:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Robert's funeral service will be held Thursday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, N.D., with Rev. Paul Cross officiating. Teresa Edland is pianist and Darwin Solberg is soloist. His burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, N.D.

Casket bearers will be Terry Dockter, Larry Dockter, Wynn Bailey, Troy Bailey, Durwin Power , James Hanson and Ryan Bailey.

Honorary bearers will be Lucinda Bailey, Valerie Hanson, Roy Poppe, Carol Poppe, Cheri Klingenstein and David Dockter.

Military honors will be conducted by North Dakota Funeral Honors Team.

Robert Boyd Bailey was born on November 19, 1937, on the farm three miles east of Wilton, N.D., the son of Orva and Agnes Hilda (Lind) Bailey.

He graduated from Wilton High School in 1956. That upcoming fall, Robert joined the Air Force for four years. He was called for Alert Duty in Guam, Alaska and England. His home base Dyess AFB was in Abilene, Texas.

He returned to Wilton in 1960 upon his discharge. Robert worked odd jobs and spent one year building a dam in Ft. Thompson, S.D. In 1963, he was hired on at Northern Pacific Railroad. He retired after 37 years of duty in 1999.

On April 3, 1965, Robert was united in marriage to Arlene Hanson in Turtle Lake, N.D. They were married for 52 years before her passing in July of 2017.

Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing; as well as wood and leather working. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling on bus tours after retiring.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.

He is survived by daughter, Marilyn (Dean) McMurray, Fargo, N.D.; son, Tom Bailey, Carrington, N.D.; and his grandchildren, Bailey and Wyatt McMurray, Sydney, Cayden and Kylee Bailey.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents; and brothers, John, David, Ralph and Merlin.
