Emery Patzer and Eric Hallwachs are presented with their awards for finishing as the Region 5 humorous duo champions. Hallwachs also took first place in storytelling.
Kaley Kostelnik performs her poetry selection, "All the Broken Pieces". Kostelnik won the event at Region 5, and was second in serious prose.
Joie Helseth took the Region 5 championship in humorous solo for her piece, "The Secret Life of Grown-ups". Helseth, along with Maara Kutz, also qualified for state in humorous duo.
The Carrington High School Speech Team had a excellent showing at the Region 5 speech competition on Saturday, April 15, by winning the championship. All ten members will advance to the state competition in Mandan.
The team raked in seven first place finishes, five second place finishes, one third place finish, and two fourth place finishes.
Students who will compete at state include Kaley Kostelnik, first in poetry and second in serious prose; Sage Patzer, second in poetry; Sarah Hallwachs, first in speech to inform and first in radio and Briley Carr, second in humorous and fourth in extemporaneous programmed reading (EPR);
Alexis Harris, second in storytelling and fourth in dramatic; Ryder Schlafman-Hieb, first in speech to entertain; Eric Hallwachs, first in storytelling and first in humorous duo;
Joie Helseth, first in humorous and second in humorous duo; Maara Kutz, second in humorous duo and Emery Patzer, first in humorous duo and third in EPR.
