Cards swept by Aggies, Tommies

Two of eastern North Dakota's power programs in the baseball realm took on the Carrington Cardinals in games at Thompson Friday, May 12.

CHS took an early lead on the Park River Area Aggies, but the opposition chipped away and broke through for the four-run margin in the sixth to send the Cards to defeat, 10-6.

In game two, the home Tommies put the pressure on from the get-go with five runs in the first inning, and were never challenged in a 10-2 loss for the visitors.

One bright spot in game one was the hitting of freshman Tate Wolsky, who hit two doubles and finished at a perfect 4-for-4. Grady Shipman also had two hits, including a double, and Kael Kovar had a double and drove in two runs.

On the Aggie ledger, Everett Fedje had three hits and scored three times, while Tucker Omdahl was another multi-hit achiever. Fedje picked up the win on the mound in relief with three innings of scoreless work.

Jacob Solseng had three RBIs in the win for Park River Area, as they improved to 7-4 overall.

In relief of starter Kovar, Ethan Roller took the loss for the Cards.

Carrington managed just three hits and one run-scoring inning against Thompson in the second half of the twinbill, that a two-spot in the fourth. Shipman doubled and scored, while Kovar and Jack Erickson both went 1-for-3.

Shawn O'Hearn was the offensive leader for the Tommies (16-2) with a 3-for-4 afternoon and three runs driven in. Thomas Schumacher and Brayden Wolfgram each tallied a pair of hits for Thompson, and Jonathan Muhs had four RBIs.

Thompson had 12 hits in the victory, and peppered Cardinal starter Hudson Schmitz for seven runs. However, none of those were earned.

Wolfgram got three innings of work to get the win.

CHS dropped to 10-4 overall with the losses.
