At the North East Region Track Meet in Larimore, the Griggs/Midkota Titans got two new state-qualifying slots ahead of this past weekend's state meet in Bismarck.
Both of those berths came in the boys' relays, as the 4x400-meter team placed second overall and the 4x200 third. The top three finishers in each regional event earn state meet qualification.
Members of the two teams to advance include Eli Larson, Wyatt Spickler, Gavin Nelson and Wayland Sabinash. In the shorter relay, the team clocked 1:36.62, while the mile-long event crossed the line in a time of 3:37.06.
In the girls shot put, Asia Becherl was the North East region champion with a 37' 9 1/2" heave, as was Levi Kautzman (45' 9 1/4") on the boys side.
Griggs/Midkota's state qualifiers are Becherl (girls' shot put, discus), Kaylee Johnson (girls' shot put), Kautzman (boys' shot put), and the previously-mentioned relay members.
Team champions at the regional event were Hillsboro/Central Valley's boys with 213.75 points, and the Hatton-Northwood girls scored 156.
