Contributor to CMC's title has Midkota ties

Twenty-eight years ago, her mother put her Midkota Mustang teammates on her back as Most Valuable Player to win the 1995 Class B girls' basketball championship.

Now, Megan (Fiechtner) Sparrow's daughter, Daisy, accomplished something similar for the Central McLean (Underwood/Turtle Lake-Mercer/McClusky) Cougars at the 2023 state track meet in Bismarck.

Sparrow was the state champion in javelin, throwing an even 124 feet to provide 10 crucial points for the Cougars. Combined with the 4x400 team's win in the final event, it vaulted CMC to a first-place tie of 46 points with co-champion Central Cass.

This is Daisy's first year throwing javelin, according to her grandmother, Sue Fiechtner.

Her spring schedule is full with other obligations as well, as she helped pitch the Cougar softball team to the Region 4 title recently and played at the State Class B Tournament in Minot this past Thursday-Saturday.

Daisy threw a total of 680 pitches in the regional tournament, which Sue said helped "warm her up" for the state tosses.

Like her mom, she is also a basketball player, and helped guide the Cougars to a 21-3 record and third place at the Region 5 basketball tournament.
