Champions times three

Twenty-eight members of the Carrington FFA Chapter attended the 94th North Dakota State FFA Convention, June 5-8, on the NDSU Campus in Fargo.

The Carrington FFA Chapter earned the state champion title in Farm and Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Mechanics Technology and Agricultural Communications. These teams will have the opportunity to represent North Dakota at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, in November.

The state champion Farm and Agribusiness Team consisted of Emma Hone, Wyatt Neuman, Joe Lindberg, Bryan Harris and Izzy Neuman. Individually, Emma Hone and Wyatt Neuman tied for second place, Joe Lindberg placed fourth, Bryan Harris placed sixth and Izzy Neuman placed tenth. A big thank you to Joel Lemer for coaching the team.

The state champion Agricultural Communications Team consisted of Sierra Friedt, Baylee Lura, Isabel Wendel and Mercedes Lura. Individually, Sierra Friedt received a gold and was third place in Press Release; Baylee Lura received a gold and was second place in Video Editing, Isabel Wendel received a silver in the Letter to the Editor and Mercedes Lura received a gold and placed third in Web Design.

The state champion Agricultural Mechanics Team consisted of Joe Lindberg, Bryan Harris, Ean Hovdenes and Wyatt Neuman. Individually, Joe Lindberg placed fourth and received a gold award, Bryan Harris received a gold award, Ean Hovdenes received a gold award and Wyatt Neuman received a silver award.

Brekka Kuss participated in the Dairy Handlers event. She placed in the top five, earning a gold award.

Emma Aberle, Karlee Lesmann, Nicole Lee, Sierra Friedt and Mercedes Lura competed in the Food Science Career Development Event. Aberle, Friedt and Lee received gold awards. Lessman and Lura received a silver award.

Jacob Hinrichs received a bronze award in the Basic Agriculture Mechanics Career Development Event. Gabe Ricter received a silver in the Intermediate Agriculture Mechanics Contest. The Carrington FFA Chapter was recognized as a silver Agriculture Mechanics Sweepstakes Team, an award based on a combination of all three areas–Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.

The Milk Quality and Products Team consisted of Sam Simons, Ean Hovdenes, and Chloe Hovdenes placed fifth and received a gold award. Individually, Sam Simons and Ean Hovdenes received a gold award. Chloe Hovdenes received a silver award.

The Nursery Landscape Team consisted of Molly Hansen, Brekka Kuss, Abby Lee, Kelsi Neuman, and Bailey Ness. Individually, Molly Hansen placed fourth and earned a gold award. Brekka Kuss, Abby Lee, Kelsi Neuman and Bailey Ness all received silver awards. The team placed sixth and received a silver award.

Emma Aberle, Izzy Neuman, Abby Lee, and Kelsi Neuman placed fourth and earned a gold team award in the State FFA Floriculture Career Development Event. Individually, Izzy Neuman placed ninth and earned a gold award. Emma Aberle and Abby Lee earned gold awards individually. Kelsi Neuman earned a silver award.

The Dairy Cattle Evaluation Team placed sixth and received a silver team award. Individually, Molly Hansen placed eighth, earning a gold award. Trisa Schroeder and Karlee Lesmann received silver awards. Kylie Skadberg received a bronze award. Kennedy Wendel was also a member of the team.

In the Meat Technology and Evaluation event, Molly Hansen, Kylie Skadberg and Isabel Wendel earned gold awards. Kennedy Wendel and Trisa Schroeder received silver awards. The team placed fifth and received a gold award.

In the Small Animal Care event, Izzy Neuman placed eighth and received a gold award, Jozey Retzlaff and Ashley Lindberg received silver awards. Lexi McClean received a bronze award. The team received a silver award.

Jacob Hinrichs, Nicole Lee, Joe Lindberg, Gabe Ricter and Karlee Lesmann participated in the Environmental and Natural Resources contest. Nicole Lee, Joe Lindberg, Baylee Lura and Karlee Lesmann earned gold awards. The team placed fourth and earned a gold award.

Wyatt Neuman, Kennedy Wendel, Nicole Lee, Baylee Lura and Trisa Schroeder received their State FFA Degree during ceremonies on Wednesday of the Convention. There were a total of 108 State FFA Degree recipients.

Two members were recognized for their outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience through the Proficiency Award program. Wyatt Neuman was the state winner in the area of Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication. Wyatt has worked for Schroeder Construction assisting with several building and concrete projects. Baylee Lura was a state finalist in the area of Equine Science. Lura helps care for four horses by grooming, feeding and exercising them.

Lexi McClean, Chloe Hovdenes and Jozey Retzlaff participated in the North Dakota State FFA Chorus.

Jacob Rexin, Lexi McClean and Wyatt Neuman served as Official Chapter Delegates.
