FFA members excel at State Tractor Driving

Jacob Hinrichs and Joe Lindberg of the Carrington FFA Chapter participated in the North Dakota State FFA Tractor Driving Event held at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot on Friday, July 21.

Jacob Hinrichs was the State Champion in the Basic Division. He received the "Baby Bison" award, a $250 scholarship and possession of the traveling trophy.

Joe Lindberg received a bronze award in the Advanced Division.

The Tractor Driving Career Development Event consists of driving a tractor with a two-wheel implement through an obstacle course in both the forward and reverse direction. Limited implement clearance is allowed throughout the course. The driver is timed as they drive through the course.

The event also includes a written test on tractor driving and tractor operation and safety.

The final phase of the event is a practicum that requires the contestant to answer questions about the tractor and questions from the operator's manual.
