Say cheese! Cows & Co. gouda tops in competition at Minnesota State Fair

Cows & Co. Creamery, of rural Carrington, N.D., placed first at the Minnesota State Fair in the artisan cheese competition.

The winning entry was a variety of Extra Old Gouda aged 20 months on their farmstead creamery near Carrington. This was the first cheese competition that Cows and Co. Creamery has participated in as they are a newcomer to the artisan cheese world, having made cheese for just two years.

"We have been so busy with all things cheese, gelato and family for the last few years that we haven't entered any competitions. When we were invited to join the competition we knew we had to make time to enter, and we are thrilled to have our entries place so well," said Maartje Murphy, owner. "Everyday we try our best to produce a top quality product starting at the dairy and ending at the creamery. Without the cows being cared for first, there is no Cows and Co."

The competition organized by the UMDIA saw a number of entries from some of the best cheese and butter makers in the Minnesota area. For a full list of results visit the website https://www.umdia.org/contests/
