4-H Council honors community members

Foster County 4-H'ers held their annual Awards Night at the Foster County Fairgrounds on Sunday, Oct. 1.

During the meeting, the 4-H Council recognized Jory Hansen as the "Outstanding 4-H Volunteer" in 2023.

Hansen has provided leadership to the Foster County 4-H program for many years, serving both as a leader of the Pleasant Valley 4-H Club and as president and secretary of 4-H Council.

Many 4-H'ers have benefited from Hansen's knowledge about showing and judging livestock.

One 4-H parent said this about Hansen: "Jory is always willing to help. He has a humble spirit. He's really focused on youth, wanting them to do well and to have a good experience."

The 4-H Council recognized Deedra Aasand as a "Friend of 4-H."

Aasand has served 19 years as a leader of the Grace City L&L 4-H Club. For at least 15 years, she organized helpers for judges in the statics building. She served as secretary of the 4-H Council from 2011 to 2014.

Another leader of the Grace City Club said this about Aasand, "Deedra has a wealth of knowledge about 4-H. She is the constant in our club, organizing meetings and always lending a helpful hand in our county."

The final award of the evening, "Outstanding Premium Sale Supporter," went to AgroLiquid, represented by site manager Jared Volk.

Each year, local businesses and individuals generously support 4-H'ers through the Foster County Livestock Premium Sale.

AgroLiquid purchased eight livestock premiums in 2022 and again in 2023.

The company, which manufactures plant nutrition products and provides service to crop operations across the U.S. and the world, is a big supporter of 4-H nationwide.

The Foster County 4-H Council thanks volunteers, businesses and others in the community who support our youth.
