Weston Rudel

Weston Wilfred Rudel, 100, of Fessenden, N.D., passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey, N.D.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with Pastor Shirley Teske officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Burial took place at Hillside Cemetery.

Weston, son of Herbert E. Rudel and Emma E. (Burgstahler) Rudel was born September 8, 1923, at his Fessenden rural home, where he resided until October 2023. Weston was the last of the grandchildren of Simon and Dorthea Rudel.

He was married to Jeannette Georgeson in 1945. They had one daughter, Brenda. His small family was his true joy – Rod and Brenda, Sabrina and JD, Paizley Ann, Hugh Ellsworth and Etta Grace.

Weston attended the Germantown #2 grade school and graduated from Fessenden High School in 1941, where he played sports, saxophone, sang in chorus and played piano. He also attended Interstate Business College in Fargo.

Weston farmed near Cathay, where he milked cows and owned Brown Swiss and Black Angus cattle. Through the years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with wood, reading, writing and doing yard work.

He was proud to be a part of the Wells County Historical Society and enjoyed the time of helping with the restoration of the Festival Hall. Weston was a lifetime member of the Elks and the Eagles Club.

He attended the First Baptist Church in Fessenden, growing up and early adulthood and later Shadow Hills Baptist Church in Las Vegas where he ushered and greeted for many years. He loved being a snowbird to Arizona and Las Vegas.

Weston enjoyed being an extra in movies and he began writing poems, articles and novels in the 70's. His poems are registered w/copyrights in the Library of Congress. He read one of his poems at the National Poet Society in Washington, D.C.

On his 100th birthday, he had fun telling Model A stories and travel experiences.

Weston was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
