Local 4-H'ers at national livestock contest

Foster County 4-H'ers Emma Aberle, Jozey Retzlaff and Karlee Lesmann competed at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest in Louisville, Kentucky on Nov. 13.

More than 120 4-H'ers from 32 states competed in the national contest. The Foster County team finished twenty-ninth overall.

"The opportunity to compete at the national level was an outstanding experience for these 4-H'ers," said Jory Hansen, one of the team's coaches.

Hansen continued, "The girls judged well, but this year's contest was extremely competitive. The same score last year would have placed the Foster County team in the top twenty nationally."

The Foster County 4-H'ers earned the right to represent North Dakota in the national contest by winning the state 4-H livestock judging contest last March.

The 4-H'ers thank businesses and individuals who provided funds for the trip, including Mark and Erin Hagemeister, Foster County Farm Bureau, Carrington Rose Garden and Five Spot Bar in conjunction with the American Foundation for Wildlife.
