Garrison Diversion matching recreation grant program awarded $692,521 to 21 Projects

CARRINGTON, N.D. – The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District's (Garrison Diversion) Recreation Committee recently met and awarded matching recreation grants to 21 projects, totaling $692,521.

"Garrison Diversion's Matching Recreation Grant Program is an immeasurable benefit for our member counties. We enjoy assisting communities with bringing their projects to life and adding to their activity opportunities," says committee Chairman Bruce Klein.

The following projects received Matching Recreation Grant funds in the fall of 2023:

• Carrington Park District - $26,906 to make improvements to the existing baseball diamond

• Fessenden Park Board - $49,250 to install a new splash pad at the Fessenden Park

• Valley City Parks & Recreation District - $75,000 for the construction of the Hi-Line Park Pickleball courts

• City of Landa - $6,250 to install a vault toilet at the Landa City Park

• City of Casselton - $75,000 to construct the Governor's Drive shared-use path

• Fargo Park District - $62,500 to update playground equipment at the Pepsi Soccer Complex

• Ellendale Park Board - $4,500 to expand the ice-skating rink at Ellendale South Park

• City of Oakes - $26,125 to develop a park in downtown Oakes

• Grand Forks Park District - $56,250 for infield turf resurfacing at Kraft Field

• LaMoure Park District - $75,000 to develop the Sunset Park Swim Center

• City of Towner – $3,750 for renovations at the Towner baseball field

• McLean County Commission - $1,618 to install a public stairway at Dynamite Bay

• Devils Lake Park Board - $37,500 to install an indoor playground at the Devils Lake Family Entertainment Center

• Ramsey County Fair Board - $75,000 to construct a multi-purpose event center at the Ramsey County Fairgrounds

• City of Forman - $1,375 to improve and expand the Central Park Community Gardens

• Sheridan County Park Board - $2,850 to replace picnic tables and install a courtesy dock at the Hoffer Lake Recreation Area

Mayville Park Board - $2,000 for improvements to the basketball courts at Waterpark and Southside Park; $21,887 for landscaping, signage and parking at Cometville Park; $6,689 to purchase Funbrella shades for Waterpark

• Ward County Parks - $8,071 to make improvements within several of the county's parks

• Minot Park District - $75,000 to develop the Minot Pump Track

Garrison Diversion dedicates two-tenths of its mill levy to the Matching Recreation Grant Program. Funds from this program have been awarded to install new playground equipment and develop parks, campground facilities and walking paths, among other projects. Throughout the life of the program, over $9 million has been awarded to recreation projects.

The spring deadline, March 1, is the next chance to apply for grant funds.
