G-M girls drop game to Tornadoes, 43-26

The Griggs/Midkota Titans' loss to the Oakes Tornadoes in Cooperstown contained easily-fixable mistakes that could serve the team well if they learn from them.

One bad quarter was all it took for the Titans to get behind the eight ball for good in a 43-26 loss on December 7, as a two-point showing for the second quarter allowed the visitors to build a six-point cushion up to 16 at the half.

Jessa Spickler had the one field goal in that period, and the Titans had only two free throw attempts during that time as the Tornadoes took advantage of G-M's lack of aggressiveness offensively.

Kelsey Johnson had eight points to lead G-M, all in the fourth quarter, and Vanessa Vollmer's six-point showing came via two first quarter three-pointers.

For Oakes, Brianna Schmitz scored 16 points, helping guide the Tornadoes to their third win out of four games to begin the season. The Titans fell to 2-2 overall with the loss.
